Inspiration for your road to the altar

My favorite type of engagement shoots are those that capture the personalities of the couple and give a joyful vibe…they capture a moment in time that will allow you to look back on your life at that moment and remember what you were feeling, how excited you were to take the next step in your lives and be married.  This is exactly that type of session!  Denae and Dan are the type of couple that ooze creativity – she is a writer and he is a photographer, and their engagement session with the talented Kaylee Eylander Photography perfectly represents them as a couple.  The photos were taken on a gorgeous fall day on Lake Washington in Seattle, and it’s pretty safe to say that row boat is all sorts of fabulous!

I am sure a lot of you newly engaged readers are starting to think about engagement photos, and I thought this shoot from Kay English Photography was full of great inspiration. In my humble opinion the best engagement photos are simple and timeless – something you would still have framed on your mantle when you’re celebrating your 50th Anniversary. The dramatic and artistic backgrounds make the perfect backdrop for these photos and I also like that the couple opted for both formal and casual styles. Timeless for sure! Have you started planning your engagement session yet? What all do you have in mind?

There have been some arguments lately against overly “stylized” weddings and engagement sessions, and for the most part I agree. The goal of any event shouldn’t be to land in a magazine or on a blog, but rather to capture who you are on film and freeze it in time for future generations to enjoy. This engagement session from Tana Photography certainly fits into the latter category, and not only is it beautiful it perfectly suits the couple!

Anne and Paul met in a reading class and they are both bookworms, hence the same worn copies of a favorite book. He is an Air Force pilot stationed in Arkansas, but they made a trip to her family farm in Idaho to have their photos taken at a place that is special to them both. And of course if they were bringing along things that were special to them, they couldn’t leave out their pup Sam!

This is such a perfect example of how to incorporate a few things that represent who you are, so you can capture the essence of yourselves as a couple without a lot of fuss. And people, there is a baby duck! I have to say, with an engagement session this gorgeous I can hardly wait to see what they create for their wedding this fall. You can see more images from the session on Tana’s blog!
